PROJECT CASE STUDY
Hermetica Peptides.
Shopify to WordPress & WooCommerce Migration. A Shopify-to-WordPress migration focused on preserving the client's existing storefront experience while rebuilding the website on WooCommerce and creating a more flexible foundation for future management and development.
01 / THE PROJECT
Project overview
Hermetica Peptides already had an established e-commerce website running on Shopify. The client wanted to move away from Shopify and rebuild the store using WordPress and WooCommerce. Unlike a typical migration project where the move is combined with a complete redesign, the client had one particularly important requirement:
The new WordPress website should remain as close as possible to the existing Shopify website.
The objective was therefore not to introduce a completely new visual identity. Instead, the project focused on translating the existing storefront into WordPress while preserving the design, product presentation, content hierarchy, and overall customer experience the client was already familiar with.
02 / THE BRIEF
Client requirements
Client Requirements
The primary requirements were:
- Move the existing website from Shopify to WordPress
- Set up WooCommerce as the new e-commerce platform
- Maintain the existing visual direction
- Recreate the Shopify layouts as closely as practical
- Transfer and structure the product catalog
- Preserve existing website content
- Recreate product and store functionality
- Maintain responsive behavior
- Prepare the new WordPress store for future management
The client prioritized platform migration and visual continuity over a complete redesign.
03 / THE APPROACH
My recommendations
Initial Website Review
Before beginning the migration, I reviewed the existing Shopify website from both a development and user-experience perspective. During that review, I identified several areas where the website could potentially be improved.
These included areas such as:
- Product imagery
- Content depth
- Visual hierarchy
- Button and CTA presentation
- Product information
- Overall interface consistency
- Modern e-commerce presentation
I recommended using the migration as an opportunity to modernize some of these areas. However, the client’s priority was to retain the established Shopify appearance rather than introduce major visual changes. The implementation therefore respected that decision and focused on reproducing the existing experience within WordPress.
04 / THE EXECUTION
What I delivered
Shopify to WordPress Migration
Rebuilt the existing Shopify storefront within WordPress. The migration involved translating the structure and presentation of the original website into a different CMS and e-commerce environment while maintaining the experience the client wanted to preserve.
WooCommerce Setup
Configured WooCommerce as the foundation of the new store. The product structure, pricing, product information, and purchasing-related elements were recreated within the WordPress environment. This provided the client with a WordPress-based e-commerce system while maintaining the core storefront experience from Shopify.
Existing Design Recreation
Recreated the visual direction of the Shopify website as closely as practical. This included maintaining consistency across:
Typography · Colors · Product Layouts · Buttons · Content Sections · Spacing · Navigation
The goal was not to make the WordPress version look like a completely different website after migration.
Product Migration
Transferred and organized the required product information within WooCommerce. Products were structured with the appropriate titles, pricing, imagery, descriptions, and supporting information so that the catalog remained familiar after the platform change.
Content Migration
Existing website content was transferred and reconstructed within WordPress. Content sections were formatted to maintain the hierarchy and presentation of the original Shopify experience while working correctly within the new environment.
E-commerce Functionality
Recreated the essential shopping experience using WooCommerce. The implementation covered the core customer journey from browsing products through the relevant store interactions required for the new WordPress version.
Responsive Recreation
The website was adapted across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. Since Shopify and WordPress handle themes and responsive layouts differently, reproducing the same experience required more than simply copying visual styles. Layouts were adjusted to retain the intended appearance while working correctly within the new WordPress environment.
My Recommendation vs. Client Direction
An important part of this project was understanding the difference between what could be improved and what the client wanted to change. From my review, I believed the migration created an opportunity to modernize parts of the store, particularly around product imagery, content presentation, calls to action, and overall e-commerce UI.
I presented those recommendations to the client. However, they preferred to keep the existing Shopify direction and focus primarily on moving the website to WordPress. The final implementation therefore followed the agreed scope rather than introducing unnecessary changes that had not been requested.
Key Challenge
The main challenge was maintaining visual continuity while changing the underlying platform. Shopify and WordPress/WooCommerce use different theme systems, product structures, templates, and development approaches. A successful migration therefore required recreating the existing experience rather than simply transferring content. The objective was to make the platform change feel as seamless as possible to the client and returning visitors.
This required balancing:
Shopify Design Continuity · WordPress Architecture · WooCommerce Functionality · Responsive Behavior

06 / THE OUTCOME
Outcome & results
Hermetica Peptides successfully transitioned from Shopify to WordPress and WooCommerce while retaining the visual direction and storefront experience the client wanted to preserve. The project delivered a familiar customer-facing website on a new technical foundation, with the product catalog, content, responsive layouts, and core e-commerce experience rebuilt within WordPress. Although broader design improvements were recommended during the initial review, the final solution remained aligned with the client’s primary objective:
Move from Shopify to WordPress without unnecessarily changing the established website experience.
The project demonstrates my ability to handle platform migrations while balancing technical recommendations with the client’s actual priorities and approved scope.
