PROJECT CASE STUDY
Legal Case News.
Lightweight WordPress Blog Development with Generate Press. A minimal, performance-focused news and blogging website built from scratch using WordPress and Generate Press, with category-based navigation, structured article layouts, sidebars, and a scalable publishing architecture.
01 / THE PROJECT
Project overview
Legal Case News needed a straightforward publishing platform for regularly posting legal news, case-related articles, and category-based content. The client did not want an animation-heavy or visually complex website.
Instead, the priority was to create a simple, professional, lightweight, and easy-to-maintain WordPress website that could continue performing well as the number of published articles increased. The website was built from scratch using WordPress and GeneratePress based on the client’s specific preference for a lightweight GeneratePress setup.
02 / THE BRIEF
Client requirements
The requirements were intentionally focused:
- Build the website from scratch
- Use WordPress and GeneratePress
- Keep the overall design minimal
- Create a blog-focused homepage
- Organize articles by category
- Create category-based navigation
- Include a sidebar within relevant layouts
- Maintain the sidebar on individual blog posts
- Make content easy to publish and manage
- Ensure responsive behavior
- Avoid unnecessary functionality and visual effects
- Keep performance in mind as the content library grows
The website needed to prioritize content and usability over decorative complexity.
03 / THE APPROACH
My recommendations
Since Legal Case News was intended to grow primarily through written content, I recommended keeping the technical stack as lightweight as possible. There was no reason to introduce a heavy page-building system or unnecessary animation libraries for a website whose primary purpose was publishing and reading articles.
GeneratePress provided an appropriate foundation because it allowed us to create a clean WordPress publishing experience while maintaining control over layout and frontend performance. The architecture was therefore built around the content first.
04 / THE EXECUTION
What I delivered
WordPress Setup from Scratch
Set up the complete WordPress environment and prepared the website for development and publishing. The project began without an existing website that needed to be migrated or redesigned, allowing the structure to be planned specifically around the client’s blogging requirements.
GeneratePress Implementation
Used GeneratePress as the website’s theme foundation according to the client’s requirements. The theme was customized and extended to create the required layouts while keeping the implementation lightweight. Custom styling and code were used where necessary rather than adding unnecessary plugins or heavy frontend functionality.
Blog-Focused Homepage
Created a homepage centered around the website’s latest and categorized content. Rather than using the homepage primarily for marketing sections, the layout prioritizes article discovery and provides visitors with direct access to the site’s growing content library.
Category-Based Architecture
Structured the website around clearly defined content categories. Category-based navigation makes it easier for readers to move directly to the topics they are interested in and gives the publishing team a scalable way to organize future articles.
Category-Based Menu
Implemented navigation that reflects the website’s primary content categories. This helps turn the growing article library into an organized publishing platform rather than an unstructured chronological blog.
Sidebar Layout
Created sidebar functionality for relevant blog and archive layouts. The sidebar provides additional navigation and supporting content without interfering with the primary reading experience.
Single Blog Template
Developed the individual article experience around readability. When a visitor opens a blog post, the page maintains a clean content area alongside the required sidebar, creating a consistent experience between archive and single-post views.
Performance-Focused Development
Performance was an important consideration because the client expected the amount of content to continue growing. The website was therefore kept intentionally lightweight by avoiding unnecessary visual effects, excessive scripts, and functionality that did not contribute to the publishing experience. The goal was to create a foundation that could handle an expanding content library without the frontend becoming unnecessarily heavy.
Responsive Development
The blog layouts, navigation, sidebars, category pages, and individual articles were adapted for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. On smaller screens, the content hierarchy was prioritized to preserve readability and straightforward navigation.
Domain & Hosting Setup
Assisted the client with establishing the technical infrastructure required for the website. This included helping arrange the appropriate hosting plan and domain setup, configuring WordPress, and preparing the environment for the final website.
Key Challenge
The challenge with Legal Case News was not adding more functionality it was deciding what not to add. A publishing website can quickly become unnecessarily heavy when complex builders, animations, scripts, and excessive plugins are introduced. Because the client expected the number of articles to continue increasing, the website needed a foundation that prioritized:
Performance · Readability · Content Organization · Maintainability · Scalability
The final implementation therefore remained deliberately minimal while still providing the structure required for a professional publishing website.

06 / THE OUTCOME
Outcome & results
Legal Case News was launched as a clean and lightweight WordPress publishing platform built specifically around its content strategy. The final website provides a blog-focused homepage, category-based navigation, organized archives, sidebar layouts, readable individual article pages, and a responsive experience without unnecessary frontend complexity.
Most importantly, the website provides a scalable foundation for continued publishing. As the number of articles and categories grows, the underlying structure can support that expansion without changing the site’s core purpose: making legal content straightforward to publish, organize, discover, and read.
